Why So Many Myths?

There are a few reasons why there are so many myths about SEO. First, SEO is a complex process, and there is a lot of misinformation out there. Third, some SEO companies use unethical tactics to get results, which gives the whole industry a bad reputation.

SEO Is Dead

This is one of the most common myths about SEO. It’s been said so many times that it’s almost become true. The reality is that SEO is not dead, but it has changed a lot in recent years. Google has made numerous algorithm changes that have affected the way SEO works. But this doesn’t mean that SEO is dead. It just means that the way you do SEO has to change. Actually, SEO is still one of the few scalable growth channels for unicorn companies.

Meta Tags Are Not Important

Meta tags are one of the most important aspects of SEO. They tell search engines what your website is about, and they help determine your website’s rank in the search results. If you don’t have meta tags, your website will not be able to rank well in the search results. Even if we don’t know how much it applies, John Mueller has said that Google uses title tags to understand what a page is about.

SEO is a One-Time Thing

SEO is not a one-time thing. It’s an ongoing process that you need to keep up with if you want to maintain your ranking in the search results. SEO requires constant effort, and you need to be constantly making changes to your website. If you stop doing SEO, your website will eventually start to decline in the rankings.

Google Only Ranks “Fresh” Content

Google does not only rank “fresh” content. They also rank “evergreen” content, which is content that is always relevant. Evergreen content is often more difficult to create, but it can be very valuable for your website. Ahrefs that gives a great example about freshness, shared that “Freshness is a query-dependent ranking factor, meaning it’s more important for some queries than others.” For the press websites, fresh content is important. However, some blog posts can be timeless and Google won’t care when it is shared.

Long-Tail Keywords Are Easier To Rank For

Long-tail keywords are not necessarily easier to rank for. They can be more difficult because they are usually more specific and there is less competition. However, if you do manage to rank for a long-tail keyword, you will usually get higher-quality traffic that is more likely to convert.

Myth #06

Duplicate Content Will Get You Penalized

Duplicate content will not get you penalized. Google does not penalize websites for having duplicate content. However, if your website has a lot of duplicate content, it may be harder for Google to index your site and it may hurt your ranking in the search results.

Social Signals Help Rankings

Social signals do not help rankings. Google has said repeatedly that they do not use social signals in their ranking algorithm. Social media can be a great way to promote your website and drive traffic to your site. If you have shareable content, you may think that it must be worthy of ranking. But according to John Mueller from Google, social signals don’t directly impact rankings.

PPC Advertising Helps Rankings

PPC advertising does not help rankings. Google has said repeatedly that they do not use AdWords data in their ranking algorithm. However, PPC can be a great way to drive traffic to your website.

PageRank Doesn’t Matter

PageRank does still matter, but it is not as important as it used to be. Google now uses over 200 factors in their ranking algorithm, so PageRank is just one small part of the puzzle.
